Workers Compensation Judge Joins Edelman Thompson
Carl Mueller, a State Judge of the Missouri Division of Workers’ Compensation, has retired from that position after 20 years of service to join Edelman and Thompson.
James Thompson, a partner in Edelman and Thompson, said, “With 20 years of experience hearing workers’ compensation cases, Judge Mueller brings to our firm and our clients a very unique perspective and understanding of workers’ compensation law. We believe he will add a level of experience to our team unmatched by any other law firm in the area.”
Mueller said, “I chose Edelman & Thompson based on their proven record of results for injured workers. They are ethical, professional and they always obtained excellent results for their clients. Their reputation among all the judges is that they are first-rate lawyers. I saw a lot of attorneys in my time as a judge, and I can say that Edelman & Thompson’s team is the most effective in representing their clients. It’s a privilege to join this exceptional team.”
Mueller said his 20 years as a workers’ compensation judge will be a major asset to his practice as an attorney. He said he believes strongly in the need for workers to be represented by an attorney in workers’ compensation claims. “I have watched workers for 20 years go through the workers’ compensation process. Very simply, if a worker has an attorney representing them, he or she will likely receive a better settlement – not only in terms of dollars but in terms of future medical benefits. I would recommend to anyone with an injury that they get an experienced attorney like those at Edelman & Thompson to represent their interests in this process.”
Mueller grew up in Moberly, Missouri and attended Truman State University in Kirksville. He earned a law degree and an MBA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Mueller is licensed to practice in Missouri, Kansas and Texas. He and his wife Jill have two children, Garrett and Grant. Garrett is attending Missouri State University and Grant will be attending Emerson College in Boston this fall.
Mueller was the first Missouri workers’ compensation judge ever to complete the National Judicial College’s Administrative Law Adjudication Skills program and is certified under Missouri Supreme Court Rule 17 to mediate civil cases. From 1992 through 2011, Mueller mediated 7,630 cases, approved 11,477 settlements and conducted 575 hearings.
Mueller is actively involved in community outreach through his church, Lee’s Summit Community Church. He is the former board president of Summit Christian Academy.
