Appeals Court Victory on $1.4 Million Verdict

A Missouri court of appeals handed a victory to Edelman & Thompson and its client Phong Tran, allowing him to collect a $1.4 million jury verdict.

In 2009, James Thompson and Brendan Buckley of Edelman & Thompson obtained the verdict in Cass County, Missouri court on behalf of Mr. Tran, a Federal Express truck driver injured in a head-on collision. In addition to that verdict, Ron Edelman and Steffanie Stracke successfully handled a separate workers’ compensation claim.

The issue on appeal involved whether the other driver was operating her vehicle while in the course of her employment. If the court had ruled she was not driving as part of her employment, her insurance would not have been sufficient to cover the full verdict.
